MESROP MASHTOTS EXTENDED-DAY EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX IN YEREVAN

TRNDEZ (Tyarnndarach) is one of the most widely celebrated holidays in Armenia.

The Armenian Apostolic Church regards Tyarnndarach as a Lord’s Feast, as it commemorates the presentation of the forty-day-old Jesus Christ at the Temple. The feast symbolizes the event when Christ was brought to the church according to established religious tradition.
On the eve of the celebration, candles and oil lamps are lit in churches, symbolizing Christ’s arrival at the Temple in the evening hours.
The lighting of a bonfire and the custom of jumping over it represent a long-standing folk tradition associated with the holiday.
